Chimney Fire Spreads Into House

Fire started to spread from the chimney into walls and roof of a home on Overmountain road Wednesday night. Homeowner was able to extinguish the fire in the stove and began dousing the visible fire around the outside of the chimney but ultimately called the Ancram Fire Company to assist getting access to areas that fire may have damaged and spread. Crews worked inside to open walls and ceiling looking for extension while a crew climbed onto the roof to remove the pieces of chimney and open the roof. Fire was stopped from going any further and members raced to cover the outside damaged areas with tarps from impending weather.
